Hey there.
I am a confirmed Adhesion patient. I've had three surgeries for massive adhesions in the last 16 months. The first of the three surgeries, December 2007, the doctor did a laprascopic procedure and looked and closed me up...did NOTHING! He said, during my follow-up that the adhesions were the worst he had ever seen and that it would be life threatening to have surgery to remove them. Two months later, Feb. 2008, I had an open lap(with another surgeon) who did a 4 hour procedure, found a partially strangulated colon and introduced some type of film to keep things from sticking together again. In April 2008, just two months following the second surgery, the pain returned. The pain was so severe this time that I was passing out several times during the day. The last sugery was December 10, 2008, a 5 hour procedure with more twisted and nearly completely obstructed bowel. Come to find out that my body over-reacted to the film placed to keep things from sticking...my body threw so much adhesion material that each sliver of this film was encased in globs of adhesion material 3 to 5 cm's thick. And just two months following this surgery, in February 2009, I began having the same pain, again!
I can't believe that I could be facing yet another surgery! I've had 16 abdominal sugeries! 10 laprascopies, 3 open laps, pans hysterectomy, appendectomy, Gallbladder.
What can be done? Is there anything different to be done? BTW in the Self-Assessment Tool needs to have a question such as "have you had previous surgery/ies for adhesions?"
Thanks for your assistance.
