Pain Management

After lurking at the adhesions list for several years, the one topic that repeats itself the most, is that of pain management. I have had very extensive experience in this area and pray that doctors begin to give credibility to the suffering through which we go with ARDs.
However, the problem with chronic, adequate pain control is that of withdrawal once the pain has ceased...like for a short time after surgery, etc. I was on Demerol IV for a short time at home with my TPN, then had to change to a morphine drip when the pain became uncontrollable. That was in adjunct to Actiq suckers (Fentanyl), Duragesic Patches, and 32 mg of Zofran every six hours to control the chronic N/V.
As the pain would diminish, I would try to stop using the opiate meds, however, after a time, the withdrawals were so severe that I was unable to handle cesation alone.
I found a medication similar to Methadone, called Suboxone and can tell you from personal experience that this was extremely vaulable for stopping the medications.
After 2 1/2 years of Opiate pain control, I was able to successfully stop the use of all Opiate pain medication, and still had withdrawals for about 6 months, but at a much lesser degree.
